Ski Jumping in Vermont

Posted by Tim Brady on Feb 14 2009 | February Events, Winter Activities

This weekend marked the official re-opening of the Harris Hill Ski Jump here in Brattlebro, Vermont. The jump is the only 90 meter ski jump in New England and one of only six in the USA of this size and caliber. The jump had closed in 2005 and needed significant repair work to reopen. But with the support of the local and even international community, they were able to complete an extensive renovation of the jump and returned the site to a first-class venue in the sport of ski jumping. Harris Hill is a symbol of pride for the Brattleboro community and throughout the Northeast.

We had never been to a ski jump competition, and didn’t know what to expect. Even though we can see the jump from our back yard, it is truly impressive to stand at the bottom of the slope and look up at the jumpers as they fly down the ramp and into the air. Many traveled 90 meters or more, with some even breaking into the triple digits.

Overall it was an impressive display and another cool event hosted by the amazing Brattleboro community. Check out the video (the first we have done for this blog – so its a work in progress!). And of course, if you are headed to Brattleboro for this or any of the other great events in the area, look us up at Forty Putney Road B&B for a great place to stay.

For more information about the ski jump visit the Harris Hill Ski Jump website.

Massage Your Stress Away

Posted by Amy Brady on Feb 04 2009 | Year Round Activities

massageMassage is a great way to relax and relieve tension. What better way to start your vacation to Brattleboro than with a massage.  Luckily, we have found a great message therapist here at the Inn, Melissa Jane Hall at A Healthy Balance.

I recently had the honor of receiving a massage by Melissa’s magic hands and I must say she is truly gifted. I suffer from pinched nerves in my shoulders and neck, after a full body massage with Melissa I could move freely for days. I have never felt so relaxed and at peace.

Melissa offers a wide range of services including Cranio Sacral Therapy, Integrative Bodywork, Pregnancy Massage, Ear Candling, Seaweed Wraps, and Body Scrubs. I am not just talking about massage here I am also talking about balancing body, mind, spirit and emotions.

Through Melissa’s own words…”During each session my clients are encouraged to move beyond their personalities, daily roles and obligations so that they can relax and receive healing as I work in partnership with the natural self-corrective mechanisms alive within them”. Melissa is also fun, personable and genuinely interested in you, making you feel at easy.

With advanced notice Melissa can come to our Inn Forty Putney Road and do an in room massage, check our Packages Page for some details, or call us at 1-800-941-2413  for more details.  Another option is to contact A Healthy Balance directly at 802-579-9644 to schedule a massage at Melissa’s studio located in Putney (the next town over just a short 15 minute drive).  Either way a massage by Melissa is well worth your time and is an experience not to be missed during your visit.
