Skydiving at JumpTown

Looking for a little bit of adventure while you are in Vermont?  How about giving sky diving a try!  Recently for my birthday Amy sent me to JumpTown in nearby Orange Massachusetts to try it for myself.  Talk about an experience to remember!

Your day starts with instruction on the basics of the equipment and procedures to prepare you for your first tandem jump.  Don’t worry, you are completely connected to a professional during the entire flight and until you are safely back on the ground.

After the instruction, you are geared up and board the plane.  At JumpTown they take you up to 13,500 feet (yep, that’s just over 2 1/2 MILES into the air) for your jump.  The great part about that is you get almost a full minute of FREE FALL!  Wild and incredible, a sensation unlike anything you have ever tried.

About one minute into free-fall, you open your canopy (parachute) and glide to the ground with amazing views for hundreds of miles around.  If you are up for it, your tandem instructor will let you steer the ride and you can do some wild twists and turns, six flags style – or just relax and enjoy the scenery.  Finally you just lift your legs and your tandem instructor will help you glide in for an easy landing.

Even though the whole experience is probably less than 5 minutes, it is certainly something you will remember forever.  I would certainly recommend the video package as well, where you can relive the experience and share it with your soon to be jealous (or freaked out) friends.

We are happy to arrange a jump for you with your stay at our inn.  Jump Town is an easy and beautiful 40 minute ride from our Vermont inn.   The whole adventure takes about 1/2 of a day (5 hours) and costs around $200 (depending on packages).  Give us a call and make your trip to Brattleboro even more memorable – with sky diving!

Want to see my video?  Here goes nothing… (Please note, this is my own version, made from the raw video provided by JumpTown for friends and family).

Tubing in Vermont

Posted by Amy Brady on Aug 06 2009 | August Events, July Events, Summer Activities

I am all about spending a sunny summer day outside as you can see from the video above.  One of my favorite leisurely outdoor activities is tubing on the West River in Southern Vermont.  The best part is the tube rental and the river are located very close to our Bed and Breakfast.  The West River is great for tubing as it is not too deep, the water is moving at a good speed, and it offers variety.  In some spots you are just floating along while in others you are gently bumping your way through the large smooth river rocks.  What a relaxing way to spend a hot summer day.

If you are planning a trip to Brattleboro and you choose to stay with us here at Forty Putney Road B&B, we can help you with your tubing adventure.  We will direct you to the tube rental (Vermont Canoe Touring Center 802-257-5008) to pick up a tub and life jacket, you can follow us in your car to the ending point where you will leave your car,  we will then drive you and your tubes to the launch site.   The launch site is located at the  West Dummerston Covered Bridge this trip will take you about 2 hours depending on the speed of the current.   Then all you have to do is float down the river and get out at the nearby swimming hole where your car will be parked.  What do you need to bring?  We suggest water shoes and sunscreen.  You will find beach towels at our B&B that you can borrow.  So cool off this summer in a tube on the West River – and at Forty Putney Road B&B!
