We love summer in Brattleboro and are always hungry for an opportunity to sit outside and dine. So we were excited to find the sweet deck at the Fairway Tavern just minutes from our inn. Although some may only associate the words fairway and tavern with golf and debauchery, this back country oasis presents one of the most well rounded places for food, drink, and laughs in Brattleboro. Combine the view, the food and the diverse beer selection with the secret paradise of outside dining in Brattleboro and you’ve just described the Fairway Tavern.

Open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner (call about brunch), the Fairway Tavern menu supplies the basics from burgers and apps to soups and salads. Gourmet options are available on the weekends ranging from duck to fillets as well as seafood and pasta options. Their menu is seasonal and frequently changes so call in advance to check out the latest selection. Great outside dining in Brattleboro is hard to find, but the scenic view and deck at the Fairway Tavern makes this dining spot one of our favs!

Looking for an event venue or a spot for a reception after your wedding at our inn? The Fairway Tavern hosts group events, conferences and weddings on the beautiful groundsoverlooking the 18 hole golf course here in southern Vermont. Tents flank the rear of the historic pub building providing both covered and open, outside dining options. Ample parking for guests, members, buses and golf carts sit next to the facility as well as the check-in spot for 9 or 18 holes of picturesque golf in southern Vermont. The challenging and historic golf course is just another great excuse to head out to the Fairway Tavern when there’s warm weather. For more information about the Tavern or the course, call 802-254-9864. And check out our website for golf and lodging packages in southern Vermont. We look forward to seeing you outside on the deck (and hopefully at our beautiful inn for a night or two as well!).

Amy and I have always enjoyed trying new things and have developed an appreciation of good beer together. Those of you who have stayed with us at our Inn probably already knew about our love of microbrews, as we have a small pub of our own with over 30 to chose from. Of course, if you haven’t stayed with us, what are you waiting for!

When we met we knew very little about the world of beers, but over the last 5 years or so that has certainly changed. We have sampled hundreds of beers and can not wait to sample the next couple hundred. We are at the point that we plan nearly every vacation around good beer and often take day and weekend trips just to visit beer bars, brew pubs and microbreweries. What we have found through our travels is that beer is often located in really awesome towns and cities. We always consider ourselves lucky to have found some of these gems.

That’s what this new site is all about. Sharing our beer travels and experiences and learning more about beer with each trip.

So if you share our passion for beer, be sure to check out our new site and watch for more great beer videos there.

Of course, if you are looking for a great getaway WITH great beer, be sure to check out our Brattlboro Vermont Inn (Brattleboro is also the home of the legendary McNeils Brewery for you fellow beer geeks) and spend a night or two with us!

Other than the Putney Road Pub located right here at Forty Putney Road Bed and Breakfast, the Flat Street Pub located on Flat Street in downtown Brattleboro is the hot spot to grab a drink. With 20 microbrewed beers on tap, a nice wine and cocktail list Flat Street Pub has a drink to suite everyone. My personal favorite is the BBC Drayman’s Porter, while Tim is a huge BBC Coffeehouse Porter fan.

Food, well that is another story. You should know that all food is prepared behind the bar in a toaster oven, on a panini maker or on a George Forman Grill. We highly recommend their cold appetizers such as the ploughmans platter. Right now though, I would not recommend Flat Street as a place to go to dinner, but more of a place to have drinks and a snack or appetizer. Of course, word is that that is soon to change and that the basement is currently being renovated into a second bar and a full service restaurant. I truly beleive that when this renovation is complete it will fill that much needed void here in Brattleboro – a place for a great beer selection and great casual dining together.

Flat Street Pub is the “Cheers” of Brattleboro. Locals and tourist alike can find a comfortable place to sit and great conversation here. Be sure to say hello to the great staff including bartenders Martha (shown in photo), Amy and Justin as well as server Hope. They will all take great care of you. If you are looking to strike up a conversation with one of the locals the best way to identify them is by their glass mug. Yes, Flat Street Pub has a mug club. In the last photo you will find a some of these mug club members.

So pull up a seat…let everyone know your name…at Flat Street!
